Elfenroads is a beautifully crafted game consisting of a large quad-fold map, an adequate rules manual printed in both english and german, a deck of cards depicting the different forms of transportation, chits (counters) that represent these transports, wooden counters to represent cities visited, several plastic coins, 6 wooden player markers, 1 wooden turn marker, and a beautiful hand painted wooden Dragon. |
Play is conducted on a map (depicted
at right), all elfs start in the main city (the one without a number on
top of it). Each player selects a color and takes a pawn and wooden block
counters that color. The blocks are placed one on each city, each city a
player visits, she takes the counter to know that city has been visited. |
To travel between the cities you must follow the paths:
|
Travel along these paths is treacherous, therefore the smart elf choses his transportation wisely. In the game, you have several forms of travel available to you:
Giant Pig: may not be used in desert or on mountain trails. |
|
Troll Wagon: slow in the forest, desert, and mountains. |
Magic Cloud: not usable on desert tracks, slow
on open roads and forest paths. |
|
Dragon: slow on forest paths. |
Raft: only usable on rivers. They travel at normal speed with the current (shown by arrows), but is slowed by moving against current. Only form of transportation usable on rivers. |

In the end, if two elves wind up visiting all the cities on the board, the winner is the elf with the most gold. For without the elfengold, there is no purpose for the Elfenroads. |
