The Camera adds 300 lbs of Curb Weight!
Some of these videos (the ones denoted with an asterisk) were of my car about 30 horsepower ago. These are all the ones I could rope up, though I know there are more out there. For example, I know there are some at The Speed Network, but constant page errors have kept me from retrieving them (anything with "Grn" in the description is me). That being said, let's get on to the videos and short narratives about them each! (Update: I've added several new mods since any of these videos...Check my Modifications section for details)
- These first few were taken at the first Speed Extremities-sponsored event in Jackson, TN. It was a hot day; I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 degrees or higher.
- I take down a modified Mustang GT Convertible 5.0. To answer one of the most frequently-asked questions about this video, that loud engine you hear at the end is not coming from my opponent. It is some trailer-queen doing their burnout in the pit.
- Next up was a lightly-modded LT1 Camaro Z28. This guy really pissed me off because he was completely ignoring track etiquette at the tree, rolling up and tripping both lights so he would have an advantage on the launch each time. So this time, instead of being a nice guy, tripping one set, allowing him to stage, then tripping the next, I rolled straight up to the line completely ready at 4500 RPM's for an All-Wheel-Drive launch once he got there. Ain't payback a bitch?
- I had several races against Mike Turman's 16g'ed Eagle Talon Tsi that day. Mike was running race gas, but still had the factory exhaust, save his test-pipe. I think this is what killed him, as even when he beat me on the launch, my stock turbo won on top end. He has since upgraded his exhaust and some other toys, but I've done a little upgrading myself. Two more races between us from that day can be found here and here.
- * This set of races are the "30 horsepower ago" set. I make no excuses for the ass-whippings I received, as these cars would hand it to me as bad or even worse now! Just keep in mind that my poor wittle Eclipse is being manhandled on I-65 by these two beasts. Mike Turman is riding shotgun, doing the filming.
- Chris Turman's lightly-modded Stealth AWD Twin-Turbo whomps me from a roll...and again, and again. That's a car that was running 12.60's on $150 worth of mods, folks...Gutted cats and aquarium valves used as bleeders on the stock turbos. Chris now has more mods (a real exhaust system, real boost controllers, etc), but is having tranny woes.
- Fred Turman uses an open stretch of highway to re-enact a scene from "Deliverance" with his lightly-modded Dodge Viper. He was dyno'ed that same day at over 420 horsepower to the wheels!
- I nail a small 2nd-gear punch before we roll back into the Franklin Dodge Dealership for the Viper meet.
- This is the only video I have from the DSM Shootout in Norwalk, OH. Andy from Speed Extremities was nice enough to catch me backing up my 13.280 run with a 13.29 1/4-mile run. Although it made me feel mean, I remember looking at the Eclipse to my right and thinking,"Guess you shouldn't have spent the money on that body-kit, huh?"
